When my husband was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital following an accident at our home in Te Anau, he was on his way to receive the very best medical care from the specialized Doctors and Nurses in our Regional Burns Unit. My focus became the wellbeing of our 4 children and how Kris’ recovery would be impacted by being so far away from his family. Christchurch is an 8 hour drive from Te Anau so remaining at home wouldn’t be an option. The kids and I had to relocate to Christchurch.
Rānui House was an absolute blessing for us. After meeting Yvonne and Nicky and seeing the 2 bedroom apartment we would be living in for as long as we needed, a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. Our financial worries were removed, and all transport and parking problems disappeared. These two things alone gave a much-needed respite to a stressful situation, but there were other benefits we experienced while living in Rānui House.
The knowledgeable and caring staff, meeting other families in similar situations and the general home-away-from home feeling with a range of amenities and equipment available for us. Rānui House is an invaluable resource for families like ours, that have to relocate to be near a Regional Hospital.
