On Sunday, 13 April 2025, the heart of Ōtautahi Christchurch pulsed with energy as over 7,000 participants took to the streets for the Christchurch Marathon. This year marked the second year of the Bone Marrow Cancer Trust’s (BMCT) proud partnership as the official charity partner – a role that continues to be an incredible honour.
To stand alongside this iconic event, united in purpose and passion is a privilege we don’t take lightly. Together, we raised vital funds and awareness for BMCT and Rānui helping to support families undergoing life-saving medical treatments far from home.
Rānui House: Heart of the Course
Rānui House at 1 Cambridge Terrace was transformed into a vibrant aid station, offering more than just hydration and support – it was a reminder of hope. Our team of 40 spectacular volunteers welcomed and cheered on runners and walkers, creating a moment of connection and encouragement for every athlete who passed by.
Inspiring Efforts and Familiar Faces
Among the many taking part, our Ambassador Josh, his wife Sibille, and their daughter Maia walked the 10km event together. Their involvement was deeply meaningful, representing the families who rely on the care and comfort of Rānui. We also want to give a special shoutout to Brodie Seelen, Guy Mansell and all of the exceptional individuals who joined the Run for Rānui team – whether you ran, walked, fundraised, or helped organise – you made a difference.
Growing Together
The 2025 Christchurch Marathon event set an all-time record for participation and BMCT was proud to play a part in this extraordinary day. Together we raised $30,000 to help us to continue to provide a home-away-from-home for patients and their whānau.
Already Looking Forward to 2026!
This year marked the second year of our charity partnership with the Christchurch Marathon – and we’re already excited for what 2026 will bring. The momentum, awareness and generosity generated through this partnership means more families will have a comfortable place to stay and the support they need during some of life’s toughest times.
Thank you, Christchurch, for running with heart. We’ll see you at the start line next year!
