Today, we celebrate a touching milestone in the journey of Rānui House with the sponsorship of the Engine Room (Laundry) by Queenstown Hardfill’s Jane and Steve Rout. This generous gift, in honour of Jane’s courageous health journey, will benefit the many families who call Rānui House their temporary home while supporting their loved ones in treatment.
Jane’s remarkable story began in 2011 when she was diagnosed with primary myelofibrosis, a rare bone marrow disorder. In 2024, after years of battling fatigue and bone pain, she made the brave decision to undergo a stem cell transplant at Christchurch Hospital. With her husband Steve by her side, they spent 159 nights at Rānui House, a place they describe as their “home away from home.”
Reflecting on her time at Rānui, Jane shared, “The staff at Rānui House are so lovely. Knowing that Steve could stay so close to me, just across the road from the hospital, was a relief I’ll never forget.”
Steve added, “It’s so much more than just having a roof over your head. The amazing staff, the dinner programmes, and the volunteers made such a difference during that time.”
Now in recovery, Jane is looking forward to new adventures, including motorbiking across Europe with Steve, and spending time with their family. But their connection to Rānui House remains strong, and today, we express our deepest gratitude for their generous sponsorship of the Engine Room.
Thank you, Jane and Steve, and your entire family for this incredible gift. Your contribution will ensure that Rānui House continues to support families with the same warmth, care, and compassion that meant so much to you during your journey
